Quarantined temperate schooling fish for carefully planned freshwater aquariums in Canada.
The Rainbow Shiner is a stunning North American schooling fish famous for its iridescent blue, pink, and purple breeding colours. It is a high-impact display species for aquarists who can provide cooler, well-oxygenated water and strong group behaviour.
Provide a mature, well-oxygenated aquarium with good flow, open swimming room, and preferably cooler conditions than many tropical fish.
Best kept in a group. Males show best colour when mature, healthy, and kept socially.
Feed quality small pellets, flakes, and frozen/live foods.
The intense colour is natural mature breeding/display colour, not hormone-enhanced. Topick Aquarium does not use hormones to artificially enhance colour.
All fish at Topick Aquarium are carefully quarantined and conditioned to our stable local tap water before sale. Some oddball and specialty species still have very specific long-term needs, so we recommend matching each fish to the right aquarium size, diet, tankmates, and maintenance routine before purchase.
Is Rainbow Shiner a tropical fish?
It is better treated as a cooler-water/temperate species rather than a warm tropical fish.
Why are Rainbow Shiners so colourful?
Mature fish, especially males, can develop intense natural breeding colours.
Should they be kept in groups?
Yes. They are schooling fish and look best in a group.
